Quote of the week #9...

Hi all,

this week I have been thinking about what happiness actually is and how to get back to the happiest version of myself. And whilst on this thought path (during my chemistry mock exam I may add), I came to the conclusion that happiness is the journey we take in life, not the destination that we are all aiming for, and how easy it is to forget to stop and look around and take in the good things everyday...

Top 5: Summer Nail Polishes...

Hi all,
So here is a guide to my five favourite nail polishes for summer...

1. Barry M gelly hi-shine in 'Papaya'

this is a great coral colour for the nails with a nice shiny finish, looks amazing against tanned skin and gives a nice pop of colour to the nails...

2. Essie 'Navigate Her'
a nice alternative to mint green, which can sometimes wash the colour out of your hands, gives a nice creamsicle finish to the nails with a nice seasonal twist...

3. Ciate 'Cupcake Queen'

I love the blue toned reflex in this polish, it brings another depth to a classic go-to colour in the summer for most girls out there, without being too obvious, just a nice bit of extra depth to the colour...

4. Chanel 'Black Pearl'

probably not the most obvious choice for summer but I love this colour as an alternative to dark purples and blues as a classy polish for more upscale evening events, makes a nice change from the nudes that I normally would wear around this time of year...

5. Essie 'Buy me a Cameo'

a nice nude with a slight rose gold metallic finish, beautiful choice for a subtle nail choice for the summer time...

Ciate: caviar nails
Ciate: Cookies and Cream

Hi all,
Just a quick post tonight before bed. I'm a bit out of sync with my timings thanks to painkillers, after breaking my wrist, (hence why I missed my post yesterday), but all will be back to normal tomorrow but here's something to tide you over until then

How To Style: Lace Dress...

How To Style: Floral Jeans...

Hi all,
So today I thought I'd do a little how to on one of my favourite spring/summer trends which is florals and in particular, floral trousers. So for this outfit I paired the floral skinny jeans with a white camisole style vest top. Just so there isn' any major clashing of prints, but I also think this looks great with a crochet or lace top as well, and ties in two of the big trends for summer. As for the rest of the outfit I like to keep it fairly simple, with just black pumps and a black bag, but then bring back in some colour with my nail varnish and my jewelry, which is geometric just to bring another element to the outfit.

How are you styling florals this spring? what is your favourite trend?

Quote of the week #8...

Hi all, hope you guys are all well...
So last week I managed to miss out on the quote of the week which I had planned to post and decided to keep it on for this week because it's on a subject which I personally think is important. From the quote it probably sounds like this post is going to be focused on love, which although I think is important, it's not. Instead I thought of self esteem when I saw this, and not just self esteem but how we settle for less than we are worth sometimes in life, not only in relationships but in work and friendships among many situations that came to mind. And it made me think of times, even not too long ago, when I allowed people to hurt my self worth and dictate to me what was right and wrong...but let me tell you, each and every person in the world is better than having to deal with things such as that. Nobody should have to live their lives with people around them who put them down and discourage them..and if those types of people are surrounding you then the best thing that you can do for yourself is to begin to branch away and focus on rebuilding yourself so you can be the best version of you..regardless of what others think.

Healthy Habits: Juicing...

(photo: pinterest)

Hi all,

So this past week I was feeling very unhealthy and seeing as I have literally had no time to hit the gym or go for a run in the evening either when it came to the weekend I decided that my diet needed to be kicked up a notch with summer fast approaching! Now I'm going to be honest, I'm not a fan of the whole fad dieting thing so I was pretty sceptical when I was looking at juicing diets online and just how much work they are to maintain..nonetheless I decided to have a go and detox myself a bit before summer hits. Now I am also going to say that even though I haven't actually completed a juice diet before I do a lot of juicing randomly at home anyway, so I was already pretty familiar with flavours etc.

To be honest the first day was not bad at all. As I am the type of person who can go the whole day without eating there wasn't really much of a difference than in my normal day to day routine..other than the fact that I actually made time for lunch for a change yay? But I did start to feel a little different by the second day. More just in the sense that I noticed my hunger when I was hungry throughout the day a lot more than I would do normally but other than that I felt clean and seemed to have a ton more energy than normal!

The one problem that is a bit frustrating is trying to fit in time to make juices for every day. At the moment the way I'm getting around this is buying all natural pressed juices from my local Whole Foods in bulk to keep me going during the week and then just juicing fresh produce on the weekends (which would last through the week if the boys in the house weren't also drinking it as well!), but there are ways around this, like going out and buying juice from the local supermarket or just making your juice in bulk at the weekend and storing it in the fridge until it's needed.

I think I am going to keep this diet going until the end of my exams, so I thought I could do a weekly check-in on how it's going and any tips and tricks for you guys starting yourselves..plus also a few recipes as well.

Review: Revlon Lipstick in Kiss Me Coral...

Hi all,
So lately in my opinion Revlon have been releasing lip product after lip product which are all amazing, and their summer collection of Colourstay Lipsticks are no exception. I picked up the colour 'Kiss Me Coral' on a recent trip to boots and I am in love with it. I normally wouldn't go for a coral as I think they either tend to be too orange for my skin tone or too pink that the orange tone doesn't show through at all. But this colour seems to be the perfect combination for my skin tone and is a nice alternative to all the variations of pink I am usually sporting during the summer months.

The main thing I love about the Revlon lip products at the moment is how well they are rival those released in the more high end section of the market. The formulation of these lipsticks is lovely and creamy and goes on an absolute dream over a balm or on it's own. they are also heavily pigmented which means a little can go a long way and a nice buildable colour can be achieved, so if you want a more subtle version of the colour for a more casual look it can easily be achieved. I also have to say a quick word about the packaging of this lipstick. It is just so sleek and rivals any of the other packaging in the drugstore and possibly a few high end ones out at the moment...in my humble opinion anyway.

For me this is quickly becoming one of my summer staples that I'm loving adding into my routine just to add a little bit of summer into my everyday outfits even if the sun isn't out every day here in England!

What do you guys think?

Review: Pamer's Body Butter...

Hi all,

So as the weather finally seems to be heating up here in England there have been a few more occasions where I have been making the most of the weather and wearing skirts and shorts. And although in England these are few and far between I have been starting to get myself ready for summer anyway, and attempting to cover up my pale legs for a change. I came across this product at my local boots whilst picking up a hand cream from the Palmer's range and decided to give it a whirl on a bit of a whim...which I can truly say I am very happy about.

The moisturiser gives a gradual colour to the legs with a noticeable change after just one use and the formulation of the cream means it is easily applied with no streaks appearing once it has sunk in, and leaves a nice natural glow to the skin. Although because the colour builds up so quickly I have switched to using it every other day so it doesn't look to dark for my skin tone. This product also gives an amazing amount of moisture to the skin with a significant change in texture after just one use as well, with the moisture staying on the skin for a whole day without feeling greasy.

There is also a lot of product for your money with this moisturiser, considering I have been using it every day for the past few weeks I haven't even made a dent in the contents of the bottle which is always a nice surprise!

I would recommend this product to you guys however the one thing I am a little wary of with it is the strong smell it has. Although this doesn't bother me personally I know for some people the smell of the product is a make or break factor, but in this case personally I feel the other qualities of the product make it a great buy regardless.

Healthy Habits: 10 Reasons to eat more fruit and veggies...

  1. Eating more fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy diet may help you reduce your risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and some forms of cancer.
  2. The fiber in fruits and vegetables may help to lower blood cholesterol levels.
  3. Eating more fruits and vegetables may help reduce your chance of Type 2 diabetes.
  4. Generally, fruits and vegetables are lower in calories than many other foods, so choosing to eat more fruits and vegetables can help to lower your overall calorie intake.
  5. Foods that are rich in potassium like oranges and bananas may help you maintain a healthy blood pressure.
  6. Almost all fruits and many vegetables are low in fat and sodium. Also, fruits and vegetables are naturally cholesterol free.
  7. Eating whole fruits and vegetables adds fiber to your diet. Fiber fills you up. This feeling of fullness may help you maintain your weight.
  8. If you are a woman of childbearing age or in your first trimester of pregnancy, you need folate (folic acid), a nutrient that is found in fruits and vegetables. Folate reduces the risk of birth defects during your baby’s development.
  9. Fruits and vegetables contain phytochemicals (plant compounds) that may help prevent or delay disease and help you maintain good health.
  10. And finally, here’s a great reason to eat more fruits and vegetables – the variety of colors, flavors, and textures that fruits and vegetables bring to meals and snacks.

Review: Revlon Lip Butters Spring/Summer Collection 2013...

Hi all,
So although I have supposedly got a self-imposed spending ban at the moment I just couldn't help myself when I came across these beauties in my local superdrug..plus I thought student discount makes it a little bit better right?
But anyway, for those of you who have been to my blog before you will probably know that I have a little bit of an obsession with the Revlon lip products at the moment, everything that I have tried I have  loved and these are no exception!

My favourite two were 'Wild Watermelon' and 'Sorbet' as they are both lovely bright colours that to me just shout summer, sun and are just making me exited for summer every time I wear them..which sounds a little bit weird but I guess it's just getting me in the summer mode.

Also the best thing about these lip butters is that the colour can be either very sheer or completely opaque depending on what you want and how you apply it so you can adjust the colour payoff to completely suit your look and your style at that particular time which is amazing. But my favourite thing about the products is how good value for money they are..as they are available at most drugstores they and at the moment only around £7 and about $7 the last time I checked in the US.

NOTD: April 15th 2013...

Hi all,

So today I thought I'd share a cheeky nail of the day with you all, and seeing as I had a different thing going on for a change I thought it might be a bit more interesting. I bought these mail wraps a while back and as frustrating as they can be, I do think they look really great in summer time, just to give a little bit more of a spark to an outfit or a bit more interest to a look.

Nail Polish: CHANEL Rose Insolent
Nail Wraps: Nail Rock Tribal Pattern

Dior Exhibition at Harrods...

Here are a few photos from my day at the Dior exhibition at Harrods. I highly recommend going to see it if you have time, the dresses are stunning and it makes for a great excuse to go up to London and spend the day sightseeing. My favourite dress from the exhibition was the dress above worn by Natalie Portman in the newest Dior add, it's even more stunning in person than in any photos I've seen...truly breathtaking that it was made by hand.

Quote of the week: #7

Hi all,
So this week I'm basing my quote around fate. Deep sounding I know but bear with me for a minute and all will become clear! So, as has been mentioned many a time on this blog in the past few months especially I have been dealing with a lot of family and personal problems that have been going on at home, which is obviously very heavy to unload onto you guys but what I haven't mentioned (or not nearly enough) was the fact that the person who helped me to get back to myself was the person who i least expected. As they were a person who I really hadn't known that long the fact that they were there took me completely by surprise and although we became a lot closer during the process we really hadn't seen a lot of each other from fall time. So it completely took me by surprise when the one person who managed to walk off my best friends train in a busy station in London during rush hour, was that very person who I had been talking to only a few minutes before, completely by chance, which of course cheered me right up.
So what does this quote have to do with it? I feel this quote just tells you to go for it, push yourself to achieve the goals that you have set yourself and really push yourself because there is a reason for everything that happens in life, just like there was a reason for that person randomly being in London at the exact time and place as I was the other day. So go out and just remember that no matter how bad life gets, everything happens for a reason and your luck will always turn around...even if like in my case it took a long time.

Healthy Habits: Healthy Berry Smoothie...

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of frozen berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and/or strawberries)
  • 1 scoop of whey powder
  • 1 Tbs. flaxseed oil
  • 1Tbs. ground flaxseed
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1 pack of Stevia
  • 8 ice cubes
  • 1 cup water
Blend until smooth and if needed you can add a few ice cubes to thiken it up. Make a little over sixteen ounces, so it will a good size to go cup and you can take a quick shot of the extra before you head out the door.
